Float, 2025, Acrylic, 16" x 40"
As an artist I seek out visual connections in nature that resonate with my concerns regarding troubling environmental, political and/or societal issues. I portray some of these intersections through themes of nature’s resilience and decay, her inherent life force and transience, or the parts of her world seen as irretrievably damaged or eternally hopeful. Capturing these essences in my paintings and drawings are a form of dialog with a viewer, extrapolating what is seen to what lies ahead.
A component of metamorphosis takes place on both physical and emotional levels in my work. In the past, I began with a photograph and a sense of place to create an image that could personify the natural world and our connection to it. During an extended residency this summer at Woodstock Byrdcliffe, I transitioned to plein air painting as an experiment in more immediate immersion to paint the dynamic changes surrounding me.
Please note: All proceeds from sales of my work are donated to organizations that are dedicated to feeding communities or promoting climate change truth and proactive solutions.
